Traditional acupuncture is a comprehensive health care system that originated in China about 5000 years ago. It works preventively as well as curatively, doing what ever nature will allow within each individual. It is a system of healing that is based on natural law such as the Law of Five Elements, and the recognition that health is experienced when the life forces energy Chi is in balance. The Five Elements reflect the creative cycle of life in nature and embrace the unity of body, mind and spirit : Wholeness.
The life force energy is everywhere in the body, but flows mainly through pathways called meridians. There are twelve main meridians and each is associated with particular functions. Acupuncture can eliminate blockages in the energy, thus helping a person to regain their fullest health potential and prevent illness.
Traditional acupuncture is very effective in the treatment of many functional and chronic disorders. Common ailments which respond very well are : pain, headaches, neck and back pain, joint pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, sleeping disorders, digestive difficulties, constipation, menstrual and fertility disorders, allergies, various addictions, stress related disorders and the effects of mental and emotional conflicts.
Some people feel quite un-well without having any named disease or easily determined cause. Acknowledging that health is more than the absence of disease and that greater well-being is usually possible. Acupuncturists often treat patients who want to enhance the quality of their health and their lives.
Any symptom is a sign of imbalance in the energy flow and a signal from the body, mind and spirit to point in the direction of wholeness. Traditional acupuncture reaches beyond symptoms to treat the causes of many kinds of illness or imbalance, resulting in treatments that are totally individualized.
GOALS
Setting individual goals for attaining maximum health is the first step towards a healthier body. Locating an Institute which offers a safe space where your unique health needs may be addressed is particularly important. An Institute offering treatment and educational services should be considered. Learning how to promote and restore your natural flow of energy can reduce stress and blocked energy creating more vitality and increased peace of mind. The body, the mind and the emotions should be given equal attention because of the influence that the emotions and thoughts have on the physical well-being.
